Our last stop: Osaka Station, the biggest station in the West part of Japan. Hotel Granvia Osaka is conveniently located beside the station, surrounded by shops, perfect for travelers. There are also other facilities nearby, for example the water clock which is really interesting!

We had dinner at “Kiryu”, a Teppan Yaki restaurant on the 19th floor. You can request for a private room for dining. The food was great. Zed gave 2 huge thumbs up after tasting the food! We were really happy that he enjoyed the meal as much as we did.

JR West Railway kindly prepared a special surprise for us at the end of the meal. The 3D Hello Kitty Cake was adorable and Zed really loved his Hello Kitty Shinkansen present which couldn’t be found anywhere. Big thank you to JR West Railway for arranging this trip, we had a very good time overall!

During our Japan trip, we visited Uji, one of the earliest site for tea cultivation in Japan. Uji Stn. is 40 mins away from Nara Stn. and about 17 mins away from Kyoto Stn. Despite the rain, we still made it to the famous matcha shop in Uji - UJI Matcha Shop - which was just a minute away from the station.

Byodoin Temple has about a thousand years’ history. The Phoenix hall, named after its shape and the pair of phoenixes adorning the roof, is the famous view in Japan replicated on the front of the 10-yen coin. Remember to bring a 10-yen coin with you so you can grab a photo when you are here! ☺

From Uji Station, we headed towards the popular tourist spot - Fushimi Inari Taisha. A direct train brings us to Inari Station in 20 minutes. (Inari Stn. is 5 mins away from Kyoto Stn.). The JR West Rail Pass made travelling convenient and smooth as there was no additional cost for transport required.

The Fushimi Inari Shrine, with more than 1,300 years of history, is just across the road from the station. It is said that if you walk around the Torii, luck and good fortune will be brought upon you. The shrine remained crowded yet peaceful in the drizzle; we are glad that we didn’t give this a place miss.

With certain JR West Rail Pass you’ll be able to enjoy free bicycle rental in Nara Station for the entire day. Cycling around Nara Park is a convenient way to travel as the attractions are nearby each other.

The designated national treasure “Sarusawaike”, just down the stairs of Kofuku-ji, is a pond with over 1,300 years history. It reflects the five-stories high pagoda in its water, creating a natural art piece. We stopped to admire the beauty of nature and Zed had a lot of fun pointing out insects and turtles he saw along the way.

“Nakatanido”, a shop which sells one of the famous product in Nara, is near Sarusawa Pond. We tried the freshly handmade mochi and it has just the right amount of sweetness packed in each piece. Yummy!

We went to the Nara Park next, where we were allowed to feed the deer. Deer gather in town and roam around the big park freely during the day and before night fall, they slowly return home. 🦌 Cutest thing was that the deer will bow to you if you bow, try it 😁
