Avoid ingredients that cause abdominal bloating after surgery
If you have experienced caesarean delivery, digestive tract or abdominal surgery, the nurses and the doctors will ask you after the surgery "Have you farted yet?" Don't take this as an awkward question. As the anesthesia during the surgery will temporarily stop the intestine movements, farting is the indicator that the patient has restored basic function of the intestine. The time it takes to produce the gas may vary from person to person, from 1 to 2 days, or several days. Before this, patients can only eat liquid foods to reduce the burden on the intestines. After release of gas and examination by a doctor, patients can change to a more solid diet, but should still pay attention to take it step by step, starting with semi-liquid food, and avoid eating high-fiber content foods that lead to gassiness, so that the stomach can adapt and avoid causing abdominal bloating.
Suitable:
Oil-free soup, white rice, noodles, white bread, mashed potatoes, peeled melons, tender leafy vegetables, filtered vegetable and fruit juice, tofu
Avoid:
High-fiber foods- red rice, oats, whole wheat bread, hard leafy vegetables, mushrooms, oranges, prunes, figs, nuts
Foods that easy to cause abdominal bloating - glutinous rice, milk, soy milk, sweet potato, beans, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, white radish, onions, green peppers, asparagus, chives, carbonated beverages, beer

Today we’ll share a hearty dish that’s bound to spice up your morning and warm up a tummy or three – and just for you, we’ve made it fuss-free!
Lontong Sayur Lodeh is an aromatic vegetable coconut curry which features compressed rice cake (better known as Lontong), complemented with a rich and mildly spicy broth and a host of healthy greens.
Our irresistible rempah, which we give a good blend and light toss in a pan till fragrant. Adding turmeric and toasted belacan (dried prawn paste) to the base of garlic, shallots, dried chillies (soaked), and dried shrimp, and you’re all set to channel that elusive wok-seared taste.
A nourishing combination of white cabbage, long beans, yam beans and carrot bring a wholesome flavour to the soup, and the glass noodles, deep-fried tau kwa & bean curd sticks and tempeh are the perfect contrast with their springy and crispy textures.
When it’s time, simply spoon the piping hot vegetable curry over the slices of lontong and enjoy as a complete breakfast or brunch. A great way to start the day, with plenty of honest-to-goodness tradition to carry you through!

Lontong is a Malay dish that can easily be found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. If you have never tried lontong before, just imagine you're eating curry vegetables with rice cake (which is actually known as compressed rice or nasi impit). In Singapore, lontong is usually enjoyed as breakfast but it's also available during lunch time and dinner time.
This video is all about making lontong (without compressed rice). We've uploaded a separate video showing you how you can easily make compressed rice at home too. Do check out the video here:
See the ingredient list of this recipe below for your easy reference.
