一個女孩與她的父親和姊姊們一起離開北方，一無所有的一家人來到這未開發的處女地，建造新房子，吃叢林裡生長的果實，在爐邊講故事。一點一點地和平走向這充滿了奇蹟的野性生活的中心，展開新生活。即使猛獸老虎的傳說和夜裡的吼叫聲令人恐懼...。
然後其他人也進入這個地方，漸漸地和平不再，取而代之的是野蠻…。
　
直到孩子遇到老虎的那一天，孩子明白這個新生活已經改變。
