Rentap (2016), acrylic, Charcoal and chalk on canvas. There are no photos that exist of this Iban warrior, who was a famed and feared headhunter. To develop an image of him I read historical accounts of what the Iban of Sungai Skrang were like, what jackets they would've worn, what headgear might a warrior where, what tattoos were typical of the area (Iban from different rivers have some differences in tattoos and rituals), and studying the facial features of Iban men; and of course painting a man who was a visionary leader, protecting his community.
