Happy 55th Birthday, Singapore!

It's going to be a different kind of celebration this year but please know that we are still so blessed, so happy and so proud to call you our home.

We watched the morning parade and sang to the national anthem with pride before making our way to catch the mobile column and wave to our frontline fighters with heartfelt gratitude. Later, we will be having a cosy celebration with our parents as we gather under one roof to feast, catch up and watch the NDP 2020 Evening Show together. Who knows, maybe we can catch a glimpse of the fireworks too.

Yup, we are just excited and super thankful to be spending time with our family on this special day. Together, A Stronger Singapore!

These were taken at the NDP heartland celebrations last night. Yup, we decided to brave the crowd and make our way there!

As expected, it was super packed and we barely had space to even walk around. A quick glance at the nearby food court made us decide to take away our dinner and have a picnic on the grass patch as we waited patiently for the fireworks. We had brought along a picnic mat, snacks and drinks and the kids were saying "It's like we are going for a holiday!". Yup, that was despite having to eat in the dark and feeling the flies and bugs for over an hour. I earnestly hope they will stay easily contented and be able to find joy in the simple things in life.

The best part was watching the fireworks with so many fellow Singaporeans and hearing all the oooohs and wowwws. Asher was screaming in joy and kept saying "So many! So nice!" It definitely made the wait worthwhile and made us so excited to be a part of our country's birthday celebration.

We only managed to check out some of the activities and see the military column after most of the people had left but the kids still managed to have fun, take lots of photos and learn a thing or two about our nation.

What was I thinking when we were going home? Only one thing. We Singaporeans are so very, very blessed. 要心存感恩，知足惜福 . ❤

The theme for this year's NDP is "Our Singapore”, which commemorates our bicentennial and allows us to tell our story from past to present.

We are so thankful to be able to watch our story unfold and be a part of this year's NE show. It is the best time for us to feel patriotic and proud to be Singaporeans, and also a great way to let the kids learn our history and not take the present for granted.

While it was, as always, breathtaking to see our Red Lions, the aerial display, the state flag flypast and fireworks, the highlight for us has to be the Military Mobile Column - which makes its comeback after four years and marks its 50th anniversary this year. We saw a total of 171 military assets trundle across the Padang right in front of our eyes. The kids were amazed and awestruck, and I was especially touched when we paid a tribute to our Merdaka Generation and saw so many of our pioneers who were from the first few batches of servicemen. Salute! you deserve all our respect! It's also a reminder that while we are living the dreams of our pioneers, we are the pioneers of our future and together, we can build Singapore to be a better home for all.

See my stories to view more highlights from the parade. For those we are keen to get up close, the mobile column will make its way to five heartland areas - Jurong East, Woodlands, Bishan, Punggol and Geylang Serai - on Aug 10 to bring NDP to the masses.

To the hubby, just so you know we are so proud of you in being a part of our Navy and doing your utmost to protect our country and fellowmen.
