Ah, it’s already the fourth day in Vietnam. We went to Ha Long Bay and stayed on a boat overnight for 2 days 1 night. Really really lovely experience. It was calming to listen to the waves and sit in the night while you fish for squid. Ha Long Bay is a beautiful area with a very nice legend to it. We pick off where we left from the previous post, in the overnight train to Vietnam. We stopped at Hanoi and a bus took us to the pier at the bay. Took a junk to the main boat were we stayed the night. The engine on the boat had a problem so there was a huge delay for us but at least we were safe. We saw islands, boats and of course, water. It was rather gloomy and dark so it was challenging to get good pictures. Overall, the day went very well and I thoroughly enjoyed myself on sea. Although I wished we saw more sea creatures. I really love animals. You can see each pictures description for more context.
About the EOS R
Today was a good opportunity to test the low light capabilities of this camera. There was so many things good about this camera as is but the low light is by far one my favourites. I like to shoot very run and gun, dock style images. I don’t like to think too much about my settings and I want the pictures to turn out good every time I take them. This has always been a challenge on most cameras (not my Mark IV though, I love that camera). I don’t bother too much about noise because I think it adds character. Shooting primarily on an F4 lens made it quite challenging in most situations. But the ISO capabilities really held up. Clean all the way to ISO 6400 and even 10000. But what surprised me the most was how much details was in 40000 ISO. Usually, cameras can’t retain detail in such high ISO’s but the R did just that. Even more surprising is that it has a relatively high megapixel count at 30MP. Usually high MP cameras can’t handle low light very well. You won’t usually use that high ISO’s often but when you do, you know this camera can help you. People would argue and say, you don’t need it often so this isn’t a deal breaker, but for me, if I can push my ISO’s so high and have a higher shutter speed to have a sharp images, I’ll take that any day. It’s about getting the shot first. Noisy or not, the image you capture has more impact than the settings you choose, so get the shot and trust me, the R can handle it.
