The Long and Short of Things
“But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.” Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard these things. The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out and buried him. About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” She said, “Yes, for so much.” But Peter asked her, “How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” She fell down immediately at his feet, and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband. Great fear came on the whole assembly, and on all who heard these things.” (Acts 5:3-11 WEB)
When God killed Ananias and Sapphira, He was being merciful to them.
The couple were most likely sent in undercover by the chief priests and elders to spy on the church and sabotage it from within.
As wicked unbelievers, imagine all the sins they would have committed if they lived a long life—filling up the cup of God’s wrath against them for their sins.
Isn’t it assuring to know that God protects His children and takes their side?
God doesn’t kill people personally very often in the Bible.
I believe that when He does so, in His foreknowledge, He already knew that the person(s) He wants to make an example of will never believe in Jesus (Yahweh) no matter what He does.
So by striking them down, God is doing them a huge favor by lightening the sentence of condemnation they will receive at the Great White Throne Judgment by cutting short the time they have to commit sins in their lifetime.
Other examples of people that God killed: The wicked generations in Noah’s time, Sodom and Gomorrah were consumed by fire from Heaven, Pharaoh and his armies were drowned in the Red Sea, as well as King Herod who was struck down by an angel when he didn’t give glory to God when the crowds exalted him as a god.
All these wicked sinners received mercy by dying prematurely. God is so merciful and wise. He views things from an eternal perspective, not like us who only think about this mortal lifetime.
On the other hand, when believers live long lives, this is good for them because every day is an opportunity to heap up eternal rewards for themselves by walking in love, just as Jesus commanded us to do.
For believers, it is gracious for God to give them long lives. Even if their lives are filled with suffering and persecution, that’s great too because all those are perfect for growing in character and healing up eternal rewards as well.
It’s only when we receive teachings about the rewards of persecution that we can rejoice in them.
Count it joy and glory when Jesus deems you worthy to suffer for His name’s sake. It is a great opportunity for you.
Do not fear because He is still with you in your sufferings, and will surely deliver you at the perfect timing after you’ve received every benefit from the fiery trial.
Little sheep, in my book “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever” you will learn more about the great eternal rewards that await you in the Millennium, the judgment process, how you can fulfill your calling in life and maximize your rewards. I can’t wait for you to be so blessed by the revelations within ===>

Faith and Works are Inseparable (Cause and Effect)
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him? And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food, and one of you tells them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled”; and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself. Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder. But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead? Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness”; and he was called the friend of God. You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.” (James 2:14-26 WEB)
A so-called faith that doesn’t produce good works cannot save anyone.
True faith in Jesus will always produce the fruit of good works.
Faith and works are inseparable. There’s no such thing as faith that doesn’t result in good works—that’s not faith at all.
A truly saved person will do good works. His invisible salvation will be clearly demonstrated by a visible transformation in the way he lives and what he does.
If a person claims to be a Christian and yet there’s no proof at all of his faith, then he’s probably lying about believing in Jesus.
God does not need to see our good works to know whether we really placed our faith in Jesus.
Man is the one who needs to see our good works in order to know if we are saved.
We justify (prove and demonstrate) our faith in the eyes of other people through our good works.
We aren’t saved by good works—good works just proves to others that we are really saved.
It’s not enough to believe that God is one. Even the demons believe that but their faith and allegiance is not to Him.
They fear God and shudder at the thought of future judgment.
Believing that Jesus is God doesn’t save—the religious leaders of Israel who caused Jesus to be crucified knew that He fulfilled the signs of the Messiah, learnt of His resurrection from the dead from the Roman soldiers and still chose to reject Him.
It is placing your faith in Jesus and making Him your Lord and Savior that results in your salvation.
How do we, readers of the Scriptures, know that Abraham really had faith in Yahweh?
By the fact that he was ready to even sacrifice Isaac, his beloved and only son—a miracle child and a fulfillment of Yahweh’s promise.
But when was Abraham saved? When he first had faith in Yahweh’s promise that his offspring would be more numerous than the stars of the heavens and the sand on the seashore. This was long before Isaac was even born.
At that time, Abraham already became righteous through faith.
Abraham’s faith in Yahweh produced his act of obedience.
Faith is perfected when what is believed in the heart is demonstrated outwardly by one’s works.
How does God know that Abraham believed Him? By looking at Abraham’s heart.
How does man know that Abraham believed God? By looking at Abraham’s works.
When was Rahab the prostitute from Jericho saved?
Not when she helped the spies, but long before that when she heard what Yahweh did for the children of Israel in Egypt, at the Red Sea and in the wilderness.
Faith came through hearing about Yahweh and Rahab placed her faith in Yahweh as the God of Heaven above and earth beneath. (Joshua 2:9-11).
How do we—the readers of the Scriptures, know that Rahab truly had faith in Yahweh?
Through her works of helping the two spies from the children of Israel, she demonstrated that she really believed and thus justified her faith in our eyes.
Using these two examples of Biblical characters, James showed that faith in Jesus will surely be accompanied by the fruit of good works.
Anyone who professes to have faith in Jesus and has no good works at all to show for it, is still spiritually dead in his sins—his absence of good works proves that he is still not saved.
James’ message is aligned with what the apostle Paul taught in his letters as well.
Paul taught that we are justified (made right with God) by faith apart from the works of the Law, and that after we are saved, we should be fruitful in good works which befits our new identify as children of God.
Paul goes on to teach that good works will surely be rewarded with eternal rewards when we stand before Jesus’ throne for judgment in the future.

My Takeaways from Proverbs 23
To never miss a new post:

2. Click “Following”, then under “In my news feed”, select “Show First”.
(Day 16 of #ProverbsHesedWisdomChallenge to read a chapter from the Book of Proverbs each day which corresponds to the date as suggested by Pastor Joseph Prince in 7 Jan 2018’s Vision Sunday sermon -
http://www.miltongoh.net/miltons-blog/the-year-of-hesed-wisdom-vision-sunday-new-creation-church-theme-of-the-year-2018 ):
Don’t make money the focus of your life. The more you pursue money, the further out of reach it becomes.
Pursue Jesus instead and all the blessings of God will be attracted to you.
“Do not weary yourself [with the overwhelming desire] to gain wealth; Cease from your own understanding of it. When you set your eyes on wealth, it is [suddenly] gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies to the heavens.” (PROVERBS 23:4-5 AMP)
Don’t try to convince someone about Jesus if he or she shows obvious close-mindedness and skepticism.
Pray that God will create an opportunity for that person to be saved.
“Do not speak in the ears of a fool, For he will despise the [godly] wisdom of your words.” (PROVERBS 23:9 AMP)
Caning is an acceptable form of discipline. Don’t use other objects to discipline.
As parents we can help our children to avoid future troubles due to misbehavior by disciplining them properly.
“Do not withhold discipline from the child; If you swat him with a reed-like rod [applied with godly wisdom], he will not die. You shall swat him with the reed-like rod And rescue his life from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).” (PROVERBS 23:13-14 AMP)
For believers who are seeing non-believers living apparently happy and blessed lives and themselves in less-than-ideal situations.
Be encouraged, God has a good plan for you and your future is bright!
Keep hoping in the Lord and keep the faith.
Keep listening to Jesus-centered sermons. You will reign in life through the gift of righteousness and the abundance of grace.
“Do not let your heart envy sinners [who live godless lives and have no hope of salvation], But [continue to] live in the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD day by day. Surely there is a future [and a reward], And your hope and expectation will not be cut off. Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way [of the LORD ].” (PROVERBS 23:17-19 AMP)
Drinking wine is allowed, but being addicted to it and over-indulging in it until the point of being drunk is giving the devil an opportunity to steal, kill and destroy in our lives.
“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Whose eyes are red and dim? Those who linger long over wine, Those who go to taste mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the glass, When it goes down smoothly. At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper. Your [drunken] eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter perverse things [untrue things, twisted things]. And you will be [as unsteady] as one who lies down in the middle of the sea, And [as vulnerable to disaster] as one who lies down on the top of a ship’s mast, saying, “They struck me, but I was not hurt! They beat me, but I did not feel it! When will I wake up? I will seek more wine.”” (PROVERBS 23:29-35 AMP)
