பொங்கலோ பொங்கல்!
Today is Pongal. I wish all Singaporeans celebrating it “Happy Pongal”!
Pongal is a traditional Tamil harvest festival. It marks the beginning of the auspicious month of Thai and is celebrated over 4 days. Families decorate their houses with kolams (also known as rangolis) and sugar canes, light oil lamps, and in a new pot, cook rice with milk and jaggery. The milk is allowed to boil over to symbolise luck and abundance.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, why not visit Little India and learn more about this festival? Or take a walk down Serangoon Road and enjoy the street light-up. (bit.ly/1n0HJmg)
Looking forward to joining residents at Cheng San CC on Sunday for their Pongal celebrations! :) – LHL
