今晚，我想來點Inc.​

由於HBR的選題跟內容我最近沒什麼興趣，​
然後就The economist最小氣不讓人試閱，​
所以今天跟大家分享另一個雜誌，「Inc.」，​
他的文章大多都是分享跟創業相關的內容，​
有興趣的捧有可以追起來拉～​

今天文章：Part Bookstore, Part Retail Theater, This Tempe Business Became a Local Mainstay​
​
這篇文章主要介紹這間神奇的書店，​
剛開始，書店化身為storyteller的空間，幫助bilingual跟deaf children，​
後來慢慢的也化身為教室，教導一些aspiring authors，如何寫作、如何出版？​
同時也是增加community events（例如音樂會等等）、二手書交易，​
最後更擴增店面變成一個theater，也同時販售起禮物。​
其中販售禮物的方式我覺得很酷，​

最近也要開始慢慢多寫書評與心得，​
希望能夠帶給大家多元的體驗。​

但的確一些用字難度有稍微增加，​
每次看到不會的字或用法都覺得很愉悅～​

今天要跟大家分享一個神奇單字：【subject】​
這邊我就省略它當名詞的用法了，​
除了名詞，subject還有兩個詞性，​
當adj.時， 慣用為：be subject to ​
1: owing obedience or allegiance to the power or dominion of another​
2​
a: suffering a particular liability or exposure: subject to temptation​
b: having a tendency or inclination : PRONE: subject to colds​
3: contingent on or under the influence of some later action: the plan is subject to discussion​

當作動詞時，特別需要比較的是這個意思時to cause or force to undergo or endure，​
慣用語會是be subjected to，​
例句：He was subjected to constant verbal abuse.​
所以別搞混了唷～​

本文例句：They were titles about politics and environmentalism--subjects the idealistic young founders hoped would open minds and change attitudes.​

英文從何學起？

很多學生都愛問以下兩條問題：
英文該從何學起？發音、詞彙、文法、語法、還是句構？
如何學好英文？閱報、看小說、看漫畫、看電影、上網、寫作、與外國人交談？

．從生活入手
語言是溝通工具，由生活需要和興趣出發，是最能令你加強學習英文的興趣。

中英混雜（code-mixing）在香港十分常見，站於學英文的角度，code-mixing對學語言者有利有弊。好處是多聽多說，幫助記憶；但不懂其用法、詞性，卻是壞處。

有些中英混雜的字有英文串法，卻不是英文。「佢好hea」、「佢好 kai」等字便是例子。看過有學生寫作時寫： He is hea. / He is kai. 甚至：He heaed.（在hea 後加ed 變作過去式）。慶幸的是他們知道這些字的詞性，但要學好英語，知道如何表達「hea」、「kai」等港式字詞便是一個好方法。其實可簡簡單單寫：He is laid back. / He is silly. 用最簡單、大家都懂的文字就已足夠，這是一個起點，不必裝深奧。

又例如試過有一次跟朋友在餐廳點菜時，侍應生問朋友牛扒要幾多成熟，他說了 seventy percent。明明應該說：I’d like it medium well, please. 反映香港人對生活英語（everyday English）的掌握不足。提提大家，下次去餐廳時，侍應生問你：How would you like your steak cooked?

可按以下大約比例來說：
0% = raw；10% = very rare；20% = rare；30-40% = medium rare；50-60% = medium；70-80% = medium well；90-100% = well done。

你問我，那如何學好英文？一定要閱報、看書？時事和社會問題的確是你的起點，毒品「K仔」絕不是“K Son”，而是ketamine；大麻更不是“Big Grandmother”，而是 cannabis。小說也是令你進入英語世界的一個好方法，閱讀兼有電影版本的小說會較易入手。

．閱讀範圍廣
如果你對以上的都不太感興趣，那便由你的嗜好出發。在香港，到處都有中英對照，如街道、餐牌等。你愛逛街的話，可留意不同牌子、不同產品的英文，再看看它們的標籤；愛球類運動便瀏覽相關足球隊或 NBA 網頁，看看球星的成就、球隊的發展，甚至短片介紹；愛音樂的話，便留意不同歌手的近況、甚至歌詞……

不知道自己有甚麼興趣的，可嘗試在Facebook與一些外國人聊天，多認識不同的文化背景和生活方式；另外也可試試看星座運程，當中家人、愛情、友情、學業、事業、飲食、健康等各方面的詞彙都會涉及；除此之外，可留意四周的廣告，廣告用字精煉、一針見血，也是學習的材料。閱讀範圍要廣，才可令自己的英語全面提升，這是一個 language input 的重要過程。

[詞彙區別] rather than 與 instead of 的用法區別

1. instead of 是介係詞，意思為「代替; 寧願」，instead of 需搭配名詞或動名詞 (ving )。

He chose tea instead of coffee.
他選擇了茶，而不是咖啡。

Instead of punishing George,* his father praised him for his honesty.
George的爸爸不但沒有處罰他，反而還稱讚了George的誠實。

*instead of 放在句首時，記得要打逗號，以區分主句和 instead of 片語。

2. rather than 當連接詞時意為「是…而不是…」

We use “rather than” to give more importance to one thing when two alternatives or preferences are being compared.

當句子中針對2個選項在進行比較的時候，我們常會運用 rather than 這個連結詞去加強其中一件事情本身相對較高的重要性。其前後所連接的兩個字在詞性和結構上必須相稱。

He was happy (adj.) rather than sad (adj.).
他是快樂而非難過的。

She ate her meal slowly (adv.) rather than quickly (adv.).
她慢條斯理地而不是快速地用餐。

Can we come over in the morning (prep. phrase) rather than at night (prep. phrase)?
我們可以早上而不要晚上過去嗎 ?

She wants to be a professor (n.) rather than a high school teacher (n.).
她想要成為的是一位教授，而非一位高中老師。

3. 另一個常見的用法是would rather...than...，指「寧可…而不願….」，此處的rather than也是被當成連接詞作使用，其後接原形動詞。「寧願…而不願…」句型中的rather than通常不會被放在句首，常用的表達方式如下：

I would rather stay home than go out tonight.
我寧願待在家也不要和你出去。

She would rather play the drums than sing.
比起唱歌，她寧願打鼓。

I would rather sing a song than dance on stage.
我寧可唱首歌也不要上台跳舞。

4. rather than 可作「介系詞」用，表「而不是…」之意，其句型為：rather than ( = instead of ) + n / v-ing*

Sometimes John drinks orange juice rather than ( = instead of ) milk.
John 有時候會喝柳橙汁，而不是牛奶。

Tina went to bed early rather than ( = instead of ) staying up late.
Tina 早就上床睡覺了，而沒有熬夜。

*有一些人會認為 rather than 後面接動名詞是非正式用法，請看以下的說明。

※注意

A. 當 rather than 連接兩個字詞做為句子的主詞時，其動詞單複數變化須以第一個字詞為主。

The teacher (subject) rather than the students is (verb) to blame.
該受責備的是老師而不是學生。

B. 當主要子句有動詞，不定詞 (to v.) 時 to 在 rather than 後通常省略，rather than 後直接搭配原形動詞 (此時 rather than 被當成對等連接詞，其前後所連接的兩個字在詞性和結構上必須相稱) 。

He prefers to walk (to v.) rather than (to) run (v.).
他想要用走的，而不是跑的。

C. 當主要子句有動詞，rather than 後可接動詞。此時 rather than 視為連接詞。

He walks (v.) rather than runs (v.) to school every day.
他走路，而不是每天跑到學校的。

主要的動詞是過去式或是過去分詞時，rather than 後可接動名詞 v-ing（此時 rather than 被當成介系詞)。原因是有些人覺得對稱構句如果被應用在這裡並不適當，而另一方面，連接動名詞 (v-ing) 也可有加強敘述事件內容的含義。

E. 有些人會認定說 rather than 只能被當成連結詞去做使用，不太會被當成介系詞。但其實在日常生活的應用上並沒有甚麼區別。

我的建議是:當你在考試的時候，如果將 rather than 當成連接詞的話，就必須要確認其前後所連接的兩個詞彙，它們在詞性和結構上必須要相稱；那另一方面，把 instead of 和動名詞及名詞片語搭配使用。當然，你最好還是要能夠去區分這兩種用法在詞意上實際的差異，所以，前述的建議是要幫助各位同學在面對考試的過程中，穩扎穩打，不輕易失分。

F. Rather than 和 instead of 在被當成介系詞使用時，還會有另一項差異: rather than 常被用來表達人物對於句子中，rather than 前方選項的偏好；而 instead of 則是以替代性質的詞意為主。

방탄소년단《Film out 필름 아웃》 바이올린 커버 | Violin Cover by Lin Tzu An of Film out by BTS

Film out 是日本劇場版《Signal長期未解決事件搜查班》的主題曲，看到這劇名，固定在追韓劇的各位想必覺得眼熟，沒錯！這劇場版就是從超好看的韓劇《Signal信號시그널》改編的。
這一次日方推出劇場版，更邀請到防彈少年團接續演唱主題曲。

歌曲編排對很多聽習慣Kpop套路的人來說應該不太習慣，反而帶有J-pop的感覺。光是聽旋律的記憶點不多，也沒有中毒性，但可以感覺到是首傷感的歌，溫柔地說著在心裡不會消失的人的故事。

可能是珍惜當下概念已經被講爛了，只好用更新的包裝方式講故事，現在更多是用穿越的方式來呈現已經不復存在的眷戀、依依不捨和撫今追昔。我們甚至用自己想像中的時光機，想著那個人好像就站在對面，但是可望不可及，當想伸出手觸碰若隱若現的對方，他卻如同過眼煙雲消失不見了。

是不是頗有我上首cover的錯位時空感，我吹過你吹過的晚風，那我們算不算相擁的遺憾，那就做個有你的夢吧，再擁有一次，醒來之後再失去一次，反覆練習之後，即使沒有時光機穿越回到過去，也應該可以熟悉夢以外沒有你的日子！

Film out is the ending theme song of the Signal the Movie Cold Case Investigation Unit, the Japanese TV series. Anyone familiar with the KR dramas may relate this one to the KR drama with the same name, which was super famous earlier and it is =]
This JP version was a remake of KR drama "Signal 시그널." The song was written by BTS member Jungkook in collaboration with the lead vocalist of Japanese rock power trio Back Number, Iyori Shimizu.

Cherishing the moment may sound like too old-school or what, now we have to package the story with new concept, like going back to the past with time machine. The one I miss sooo much seems to be standing opposite there, but he is out of reach. When I want to reach out and touch him hug hum, he just disappear away.

I still miss you soooo much. I want to be with you, it is as simple and as complicated as that.
Until then, I'd feel the sun and the wind as if you are holding me.
But now all I can do is have a dream with you where you are with me. It'll be like being there with you in the dream and losing you after waking up. After being repeated again and again every night and day and practicing like this, even there is no such time machine to travel back to the past, I would be good at the days without you after waking up in reality (oh but I would def choose to love you if there were a time machine taking me back to the past).

The most difficult aspect for this MV shooting was each scene was a ‘Oner’. All of the scenes were one-taker, it means that even if it’s only a tiny mistake like a blocking mistake from the actors, faulty props, delayed lip-syncing or me looking not handsome enough that would mean a total re-shoot is needed. It was so so so fking challenging… Luckily the 5 beauties were good in acting or else we would need another day to finish the video.

When I’ve done filming a few MVs in Taiwan and just got back to Malaysia, it’s kinda hard for me getting used to the ‘changes’ since there are so many SOPs and regulations for video production plus state-crossing is a total headache. I really do wish that the virus could go away ASAP, I still have a lot of work to do, please don’t play play ah…
