Godly Promotion in Due Season
“Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:5-8 WEB)
Young believers can desire greater realms of service to the body of Christ, but know that promotion comes from God, by His choice, at His timing.
Don’t push at His hand trying to climb up before the appointed time. His hand is your promotion ceiling.
If you somehow get above it, the grace for you to enjoy restful, wholesome success won’t be there.
Uncontrolled ambition can cause one to try to elevate oneself in pride, causing all sorts of strife and division which are demonic.
How do you identify a believer who is ready for promotion in ministry?
He/she is humble and is respectful towards everyone, building others up and not tearing anyone down.
God prepares us for promotion by transforming our hearts with His word and through our life experiences—especially fiery persecution.
When He deems us to be ready, He will promote us in due season. When God promotes, no one can prevent it or demote.
In seasons of waiting where you seem stagnant with no promotion, you may become worried, distressed and ask questions like, “How long, Lord?”
You can be honest with Jesus and tell Him all your worries and cares—He won’t rebuke you.
As you release those cares to Him, He will give you the wonderful peace of God that seems to say, “My child, everything will be okay. I’ve got this.”
The opposite of being sober and self-controlled is to be drunk on emotions and letting them control you.
That’s why whenever you feel worried, the solution is to quickly cast your cares upon Jesus, before your flesh starts to have weird ideas of how to ease your worries.
Immediately after writing about God resisting the proud and exalting the humble, Peter mentions the devil walking around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.
Why? Because people who are lifted up in pride are devour-able. They are setting themselves up for a humbling fall.
The opposite is also true, that humble believers aren’t devour-able because they rely on God’s Grace and are safely resting under His mighty hand!
