Those that have been following my #oalworkout on Saturdays LIVE, we have learned a lot of basic exercises, HIIT, tabata, bodyweight strengthening and toning, isometric, explosive..... etc.
Coming Saturday 4pm I would like to add in weights to those basic exercises for LEGS and GLUTES, to give our Lower Body muscles some challenge - Strength & Resistance Training.
Don’t worry, don’t need to buy dumbbells if you don’t have, just ready two same size mineral water. Not the small ones because for lower body those small bottles are too too light. You can try ready 2 bottles of 1.5L mineral water like this in the picture.
And ready a dining chair 🪑 and a sofa bench. If you have resistance band, you can ready them too.
Why we need to build lower body muscles? Because it’s the biggest muscles group in our body. And if I say if you tone and build more muscles on your lower body, it will help you get your abs too, will you believe it? YES, it will help. Because your whole body muscle mass will be increased, metabolism increase. Which will help you in your abs line building Mission!
But but but!!!! The biggest benefit to build lower body, is not just because you will look better.
The increased energy that comes with a regular lower body workout, can make everyday activities more nimble and symmetrical, avoiding injuries!!!!!!!!
When they build their muscles, they are also going to increase their metabolism and burn more calories at rest. Meaning, you are burning calories even when you are sleeping! Sounds good?

🌟Reasons why you’re not building muscle
.
💪🏼Everyone has the capabilities of building muscle, however it is a difficult task which needs a shed load of patience and consistency. If you find yourself struggling to build more muscle mass then ask yourself the following:

🌮Are you eating enough calories? - If you want to maximise muscle growth then you must be in a surplus of calories.
.
🍗Are you aren't eating enough protein? - Protein is essential to build muscle. You don’t need to eat it to excess, more protein doesn't equal more gains (unfortunately). But you've got to get enough in your system on a daily basis. 0.7-1g per 1lb of bodyweight will cover it. Advisable to also somewhat spread protein consumption up over the course of a day to.

🤔Are you inconsistent? - You hit the gym like a beast for 3-4 weeks solid, then you feel like you've earned yourself a two week break. That’s not how it works, show up and be consistent.
.
📈 Are you lifting effectively? - To grow, you have to provide stimulus for your muscles to do so. Therefore you need to be challenging yourself and implementing progressive overload. Make sure the weights you are lifting are challenging and the last few reps of each set are a struggle. Then over time add more weight, reps, sets or make the exercise more challenging in other ways.

🤦🏼♂️Is your form sloppy? - Are you executing the exercises correctly? Are the correct muscles doing the majority of the work for each exercise? There is no point in lifting heavy if your form is sloppy. Form first then add weight.

😴 Are you resting enough and getting enough sleep? - 6-8 hours kip a night should do the trick with at least 1 rest day in your plan a week.

☝🏼If you find yourself struggling to build muscle then ask yourself the questions above.

What is Calisthenics?
a. Calisthenics = High-Intensity Bodyweight Training
b. Training equipment is including high bar, parallel bar, rings, floor, a wall at the park.
c. Training style is similar to gymnastic training - pull-ups, chin-ups, push-ups, dips, handstand, rings routine, planche, L-sit...
d. Calisthenics can strengthen your shoulders, back & arms, and you can develop decent abs definition.
Most of the Calisthenics athletes have low body fat percentage, decent mobility & flexibility.
e. Calisthenics have many advantages over traditional exercises, for example, rings muscle-ups over biceps curl, handstand push-ups over barbell overhead press, dips over cable triceps extension...
f. Pull-up & Chin-up are "kinetic chain" exercises that are able to build your functional strength. And they're mulit-joint movements.
