本週🇺🇸美國大小事聊聊「 stove 爐子」有關的諺語
國外爐子跟台灣的不太一樣，是分成前2後2共4口爐子
這跟接下來要學的這三個諺語有大大～的關係呦！

The standard stove has four burners—two in the front and two in the back. When cooking, it’s common to put pots that need active attention on the front burners and pots that don’t need to be stirred on the back burners. 1⃣ So the phrase “(put/place sth.) on the back burner” means to give something less priority or attention, or postpone it. Ex: We had to put our travel plans on the back burner because of the pandemic.
標準的美式爐子有四個爐口，兩個在前兩個在後。烹煮食物時，我們通常會將需要心力照顧的鍋子放在前面，不用一直顧著的放後面。所以片語 put/place sth. on the back burner 延伸有「不優先考慮，延宕」的意思，如We had to put our travel plans on the back burner because of the pandemic.（疫情期間，我們不得不延後旅遊計畫。）
2⃣ In contrast, “(put/place sth.) on the front burner” means to give something more priority or attention. Ex: The deadline is approaching, so it’s time to put this project on the front burner.
put sth. on the front burner 就是相反的意思，指「優先考量」：The deadline is approaching, so it’s time to put this project on the front burner.（期限快到了，我們應該優先作這份計畫。）
3⃣ What if you “cook on the front burner”? That means you’re successful at something, or making rapid progress. Ex: Two promotions in two years—he’s really cooking on the front burner! 4⃣ The phrase “cook with gas” also has the same meaning. Ex: Great shot—now you’re cooking with gas!
如果我們說一個人 cook on the front burner，就是說他「做事得心應手、在某事上進展快速」，如：Two promotions in two years—he’s really cooking on the front burner!（兩年內升職兩次！他真的是作得不錯！）另外，片語cook with gas 也指同樣意思：Great shot—now you’re cooking with gas!（這球投得好，你真厲害！）
