孕媽媽:「我有個很瘦的朋友最近懷孕驗出妊娠糖尿,我都快將做飲糖水測試,萬一有妊娠糖尿病怎麼辦?」
CheckCheckCin:不論肥瘦的孕婦都有機會患上妊娠糖尿,是指懷孕前沒有糖尿病,但在懷孕時出現高血糖現象;因胰臟未能提供足夠的胰島素分泌,影響了血糖的調節,懷孕期間過度增重是高危因素之一,而高齡產婦、家族有糖尿病史、無運動習慣的孕婦患上妊娠糖尿的機會亦較高。一旦患上妊娠糖尿,有可能令胎兒過大、增加畸胎、早產等風險,所以要乖乖戒口以及做適量運動控制血糖水平。中醫角度看糖尿病屬於消渴病,妊娠糖尿成因多為肺、脾、腎三臟虧虛以致陰虛內熱,治療以益氣養陰為主,可以適量食用沙參、玉竹、百合、麥冬、枸杞子等食材。僅記少食多餐、定時定量,同時控制澱粉質的吸收,多吃粗糧及高纖食物,少吃煎炸油膩食物及甜品,切勿胡亂進補。

Managing gestational diabetes
“A friend of mine is very slim, but recently, she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I’ll be undertaking the Glucose Tolerance Test soon. What should I do if I’m diagnosed with it too?”
CheckCheckCin: Whether you are plump or skinny, all pregnant women have an equal chance of developing gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes refers to a condition in which the blood sugar levels of a person, who previously was not diabetic, become high during pregnancy.
This happens because the pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin for the body. Hence, it is unable to regulate the sugar levels effectively, and excessive weight gain can be dangerous during pregnancy. Older pregnant women, those with a family history of diabetes, and women who seldom exercise have higher chances of having gestational diabetes.
Once a pregnant mom develops this condition, her fetus might become larger, teratogenesis (congenital malformations in an embryo or fetus) might happen, and premature birth might occur. Hence, it is important to watch your diet and exercise regularly to control your blood sugar levels.
From Chinese medicine perspective, gestational diabetes is mainly caused by the deficiencies in the lungs, spleen, and kidneys. These deficiencies would then cause the deficiency of the yin and the accumulation of heat in the body.
To improve the body condition, we need to strengthen the qi and nourish the yin. Consume an appropriate amount of glehnia root, polygonatum odoratum, lily bulb, radix ophiopogonis, and wolfberry. Remember to eat more meals but in smaller quantities and regularly. Do control the intake of carbohydrates as well. Consume more coarse grains and foods that are high in fibers, cut down on fried and oily foods and desserts, and avoid taking nourishing products unnecessarily.

不少年輕女生都以為「婦科病」只會出現在已婚或年長女士身上,其實但凡與子宮有關的疾病都統稱為婦科病,女生由月經初潮開始就宜注意子宮的健康,子宮內膜異位及子宮肌瘤等疾病都有年輕化的趨勢,從中醫角度來看,這兩種疾病多見於痰瘀寒凝、氣滯血瘀體質人士,平日宜注意飲食及情緒健康,減少飲食生冷,改善痰濕積聚及氣滯血瘀的情況。可用益母草活血調經,加紅糖煲水或煲湯飲用。除了在藥材舖購買乾品益母草,在街市偶然也可找到鮮品。
食材小貼士:
益母草屬性偏涼,能活血調經、利水消腫,適合血瘀體質人士服用,容易周身疼痛、易有黑眼圈、暗瘡印、女士月經不適多血塊等亦宜 。
益母草紅蘿蔔南棗湯
功效:活血養血,紓緩女士月經伴有血塊者、黑眼圈、唇色深、容易水腫等問題 。
材料:益母草20克、紅蘿蔔2根、百合20克、紅豆20克、紅腰豆30克、南棗6枚、龍眼乾9克
做法:
1. 所有材料洗淨,紅蘿蔔去皮切段備用。
2. 鍋中加入2500毫升水,放入全部材料,武火煮至水滾,調文火煮1小時,最後下鹽調味即可。
備註:調經作用宜於經前3-7日飲用此湯;陰虛體質、孕婦忌服。

Motherwort soup can nourish the uterus

Besides dried motherwort in Traditional Chinese Medicine stores, you should be able to find fresh ones in the wet market as well.
Tip on the ingredients:
Motherwort – cold in nature; can promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation, induce diuresis and relieve water retention. Suitable for individuals with the blood stasis condition, and those who are prone to body ache, dark eye circles, acne scars, blood clots in the menstrual fluid.
Motherwort and carrot soup with Chinese dates
Effects: Promotes blood circulation. Recommended for ladies experiencing clots in menstrual blood, and for relief of symptoms such as dark circles under the eyes, dark lip color and edema.
Ingredients: 20g motherwort, 2 carrots, 20g lily bulb, 20g red bean, 30g red kidney bean, 6 Chinese dates, 9g dried longan
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Cut peeled carrot into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1 hour. Add salt to taste.
Note: To relieve menstrual discomfort, have this tea 3-7 days before the period. Those with yin deficiency body constitution and pregnant women should avoid consuming it.

CheckCheckCin: Many of us got to spend more time at home during the pandemic. While some of our culinary skills have improved, some of us have developed the habit of binge eating. The lack of exercise and our sedentary lifestyle at home have caused our body to inevitably increase in size
Moreover, stress can also cause us to gain weight. The stagnation of qi in the liver will disrupt the overall circulation of the qi and blood in the body, hence adding a further burden to the spleen and stomach. If these two organs fail to eliminate excess water from the body, dampness will accumulate and cause us to look swollen, as if we have put on weight. However, if we become fat due to our eating habits, then we need to re-examine our diet and improve our body shape by exercising regularly.
If the weight gain is stress-induced, then individuals need to find ways to relieve stress. Consume an appropriate amount of lotus root, white radish, dried citrus peel and rose flowers, as these ingredients can soothe the liver. Resepi Ikan Siakap Stim Ala Thai | Thai-Style Steamed Sea Bass Recipe
//Bahasa Melayu

Resepi Siakap Stim Limau
Bahan-bahan
1 ekor ikan siakap
2 batang serai (diketuk)
2 sk garam
1/4 potongan nenas (dipotong segitiga)
1 labu bawang putih
7 biji cili padi
5 biji limau nipis (diperah)
2 sb gula kabung Thai
1 cwn air panas
1 sb sos ikan
Daun sup
Aluminium foil
Nota:
1. Kalau kurang masin, tambah lagi sos ikan. Kalau kurang manis, tambah lagi gula kabung Thai.
2. Untuk tahu ikan kukus dah masak atau belum, tolak isi ikan dekat bahagian tulang yang dikelar tadi dengan menggunakan garfu. Jika isi mudah tertanggal daripada tulang, maksudnya ikan dah betul-betul masak.
Cara memasak
1. IKAN SIAKAP: Bersihkan ikan dan lumurkan dengan garam.
2. Letakkan ikan atas aluminium foil dan kelar ikan supaya ikan cepat masak.
3. Masukkan serai ke dalam perut ikan. Kemudian, balut ikan dengan aluminium foil. Biarkan terbuka sedikit untuk mempercepatkan proses mengukus.
4. Panaskan periuk kukus, kukus ikan selama lebih kurang 10 minit. Kemudian, masukkan nenas. Tutup periuk dan biarkan selama 5 minit atau sehingga ikan masak.
5. KUAH: Potong limau nipis untuk mendapatkan perahan jus limau.
6. Kemudian, kisar bawang putih dan cili padi tanpa air hingga lumat.
7. Hiriskan daun sup.
8. Campurkan gula kabung Thai bersama air panas. Kacau sehingga larut.
9. Kemudian, campurkan bahan kisar, perahan jus limau, daun sup dan sos ikan bersama.
10. Tuang kuah ke atas ikan yang sudah dikukus tadi.
11. Hiaskan dengan hirisan daun sup. Sedia untuk dihidangkan.

Steamed Lime Sea Bass Recipe
Ingredients
1 sea bass
2 stalks of lemongrass (bruised)
2 tsp of salt
1/4 piece lengthwise of pineapple (cut into triangles)
1 garlic bulb
7 bird's eyes chilies
5 key limes (squeezed)
2 tbsp of Thai palm sugar
1 cup of hot water
1 tbsp of fish sauce
Leaf celery
Aluminium foil
Note:
1. If less salty, add more fish sauce. If less sweet, add more Thai palm sugar.
2. If you want to know if the steamed fish is cooked or not, push the fish fillet near the part of the bone that was cut earlier using a fork. If the contents are easily detached from the bones, it means fish are properly cooked.
Cooking methods
1. SEA BASS: Clean the fish and smear with salt.
2. Place the fish on aluminium foil and scoring the fish to make it cook faster.
3. Stuff lemongrass inside the cavity of fish. Then, wrap the fish with aluminium foil. Leave it slightly open to speed up the steaming process.
4. Heat a steamer, steam the fish for about 10 minutes. Then, add in pineapples. Close the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes or until fish is fully cooked.
5. GRAVY: Cut key limes and squeeze to get the juice.
6. Then, grind garlic and chilies without water until pulverized.
7. Slice leaf celery.
8. Mix Thai palm sugar with hot water. Stir until dissolved.
9. Then, mix grinded ingredients, lime juice, leaf celery, and fish sauce altogether.
10. Pour gravy over the steamed fish.
11. Garnish with sliced leaf celery. Ready to serve.

【材料】(冷蔵保存3日~4日)
●茄子:5個
●ツナ缶:2缶
●あごだし(4倍濃縮):大さじ1(めんつゆ、醤油でもOK)
●丸鶏がらスープ:大さじ1
●ごま油:大さじ2
●塩少々
●砂糖少々(更に糖質をおさえるならラカントとかオススメ)
●桃屋のきざみしょうが:大さじ1/2(勿論、普通の生姜でもOKだよ♪)
●最後にブラックペッパー
お好みでかつお節、炒りごま、ネギ
※今回は無限シリーズ、これから旬になってくる茄子ですね。
これがまた最高にご飯とお酒がすすむ超簡単なおつまみになってます。
暑い日でもレンジでチンするだけでとっても簡単に作れるし作り置きにも出来るので
おつまみ、おかず、お弁当に是非作ってみて下さい。

[Ingredients](3 to 4 days in refrigerated storage)
Eggplant: 5 pieces
Canned tuna: 2 cans
Broth made from flying fish: 1 Tbsp (Noodle soup or soy sauce is also acceptable)
Whole chicken stock powder: 1 Tbsp
Sesame oil: 2 Tbsp
A pinch of salt
A pinch of sugar (if you want to cut down on the sugar, I recommend Lakanto)
Chopped ginger: 1/2 Tbsp (of course, regular ginger is OK too♪)
Black pepper at the end.
Finish with bonito flakes, roasted sesame seeds and green onion on it as you like.

It's a super easy snack that goes well with rice and alcohol.
It's very easy to cook in the microwave even on a hot day, and you can also keep it in the fridge.
