Yoga is about connection. It is important to feel connected to nature and to the elements. This kind of connection is part of the training of yoga and also an art of having them flow into one another.
I always feel a sense of freedom whenever I am grounded in Hong Kong’s nature. I like to go barefoot so that I can feel the texture of the rocks and the grass. I believe it teaches us to appreciate the grass and the earth more when we go shoeless.
I am glad to have the opportunity to explore the hidden gems of Hong Kong with my feet, so that I can experience the feeling of being connected to the natural surroundings.

Rest and self-care are so important. When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel - Eleanor Brownn

This morning, I woke up feeling good. I rolled out my mat to practice a short yoga routine.
Then, I sat quietly, basking my skin in the sun shining through the balcony.
I closed my eyes, watching my breaths, feeling my heartbeats.
My mind started to wander, as it had always done before. I gently brought it back to feel my breaths; I wanted to be with the simplicity of the now.
A moment later, I felt as if I was taking roots in the earth and at the same time rising towards the sky.
A giant tree, I was.
Budding in the spring. Pulsing with potentials.
I use the metaphor of the tree a lot when I teach women about Self-Love.
Most women are givers. I guess that you are, too.
We often make the mistakes of wanting to give it all to others without giving to yourself first.
A tree that wants to bear fruit but refuses to take roots.
No water. No sunshine.
The tree withers and dies.
We walk around like empty shells, pretending that we got it together. Numbing the pain with food, shopping, movies, or getting busier.
This model doesn't work.
It doesn't matter who you are and what dreams you have, it's essential to make space each day to take roots.
It can be 20 minutes of yoga or 3 minutes of enjoying your breath. Love yourself enough to do this.
Every time, you'll find a source of energy - a life force - that is waiting to feed you. It loves you that much.
So take root
Reach tall
Let the life force flow in you.
