This week's Singapore #Fitspo of The Week is @ian_acy, the father of @thesquirmygremlin!
Head honcho of @ironprjt, Ian did his first sprint triathlon and then went straight into a full Ironman (don't learn from him please lol). Read the full interview on @yahoosg on how he balances daddy duties, his job as an airline pilot and training for triathlons!

#CTriTalk 2: Let’s talk about breast(stroke)
•••
When I first decided I wanted to do triathlons, I was worried for my swim. You could throw me in the water and I wouldn’t drown, cause I can tread water and swim a little bit. But my freestyle was horrible!
•
I could only manage one 50m lap at most because I would be so breathless! And I started to get worried because how the heck am I gonna swim 750m (distance for a sprint triathlon) like that?!
•
And then I worked with a swim coach to correct my technique but these things take time. In my first few races, the 3 Metasprint races and 1 TriFactor RunSwimRun race, I swam most of it with breaststroke! I would start with freestyle but somewhere out there in the sea I would be so ‘pangcek’ that I had to switch to breaststroke.
•
I think it was about 8-9 months later that I managed to swim 1.5km freestyle all the way! It was at one of the TriFactor races later in the year I recall, and I was so happy!
•
So I just wanted to say there’s nothing paiseh to swim breaststroke, especially when you’re new to the sport. I say this because I’ve had some people sharing how worried they are about being embarrassed to swim breaststroke, but it’s really ok!!!

We all have to start somewhere right? 🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️🏊🏻♀️ #cheryltayworksout

Interestingly, I started and ended my rookie tri season with a sprint triathlon. Both races were 8 months apart but I feel like I've gone through 10 years instead.
What's my purpose in doing this?
The other morning I was huffing, puffing and grunting away on my indoor bike trainer when my dad asked, "Why are you still doing this? That race you did in Phuket enough already la." That's where I smiled. It's just the beginning man.
What started as a hobby is still a hobby, but has also become a lifestyle bordering on obsession/addiction. Hahaha! No I'm not gonna turn pro/full-time, yes I'm just gonna enjoy this as much as I can.
5 months to my next big race, but first.. the festive season! 🌲🌲🌲#cheryltayworksout
