#PrideMonth Story Time
So a few years ago I ‘came out’ to the media in Hong Kong. I use air quotes because I believed that I wasn’t really coming out of anything, I was just admitting to a truth - that I was dating a woman.
I didn’t think much of that experience at the time, the only thing I was focused on was that I hope the media would stop bothering my (then) gf and I.
Fast forward to now, I am so glad that I made the decision to admit to my truth because now I’ve created a platform where I can openly talk about this and share my journey with you guys.

2012, when I ‘came out’ to my parents, it was THE most nerve-racking thing I’ve ever done in my life. It was the most difficult facing my mom because she had an idealistic hope that I would marry a guy and have children and at the time she couldn’t understand how I could still have a family being gay.
2019, I am grateful and blessed that years later both my parents have become my pillars of strength. Not only do they welcome my partner but they support my efforts in standing up for LGBT+ rights in HK.
So what I want to say is, first of all, never underestimate anyone’s ‘coming out’ moment. You can’t understand what that person is going through unless you’ve been in their shoes and everyone has their own story. So have compassion.
And to those who are finding the strength to speak your truth know that it takes time and remember to always be honest with yourself and to communicate that with your loved ones.
