My recipe today is one of my favourite comfort dishes.. the world can be turning topsy turvy but a whiff of that mixture of coconut milk, Tumeric leaves and lemongrass the end of the world can pause for that moment.. it’s a dish that I ban from being cooked in my house when I am on a strict diet.. all you need is white rice, sambal belacan and ikan masin to complete this genius creation.. some households cooks a thinner gravy but I like it thick n creamy like how my mom makes it .. today I cooking Lemak Cili PADI with Ayam ..

Everyone has their must haves for Hari Raya. Either it’s Lemang or Lodeh or Burasak or Sambal Kacang .. it really depends on the family’s self made ritual and habit .. I originate from down south, Johor. My mother has 5 sisters and our families used to be very close knitted.. each year on the morning of Hari Raya. We usually gather at one of my aunties house. And it was a feast of the eyes when you see how my mother n her sisters would prepare different types of Raya goodies that would fill the table. We would at least have 9 to 10 dishes all spread out as a feast. After we moved up to KL it would continue at our cousin brothers place, where my mother n I use to stay. Now slowly but surely with everybody having their own small family unit the tradition then dilutes off into new traditions and following. But for me I guess I am traditional in many ways. I like to keep such traditions running. With home gate wide open on the first day of Raya, seeing happy faces feasting and catching up till late. Cheerful , warm voices filling the walls of the house on that day. Feels “nice” . It gives me something to look out for on that special day. It makes that day an extra bit more “special” to me. This year my gates won’t be open. But the house will still be decked and food would definitely be cooked and packed ready to be shared with close relatives n family friends.. from my mother and me. We would like to wish everyone of you “Selamat Hari Raya. Maaf zahir Dan Batin.. and always stay safe.” Today I cooking “Daging Deng Deng” •
