For my 36th birthday, I'll like to shamelessly ask for a birthday gift from you.
I wanted to do this last year, but i procrastinated. And so my birthday came and gone, in the end i didn't manage to fulfill what i had set out to do.
I thought long and hard about which organization i want to raise fund for. Lastly, i decided on this, something i strongly believe in. I want to help our community and those in need to achieve better mental wellbeing through psychotherapy and counselling. I've benefited so much from it personally, therefore i know it will help many others too.
Having a healthy state of mind is not only about being happy, it is about giving them a different perspective in life, giving them a chance to live a worthy life, giving them the right tools to cope with different situations in a more adaptive way, and so much more.
I humbly ask for your generosity in contributing to this cause. No amount is too small! Your donation will go a long way!
All proceeds will be donated to Care Corner Singapore Ltd. A non-profit organisation that 'provides Care to every Corner', their services are offered to all, regardless of race, language or religion.
Thank you so very, very much for your contribution. I am grateful.❤
You may click on the link on my bio or igstory to the fundraising page. Thank you so much for making my birthday a very meaningful one!

The highlight of yesterday's UBC Student Leadership Conference was definitely the closing keynote by @jessicajackley, the co-founder of Kiva, a non-profit organization that connects you with low-income entrepreneurs, not by a donation but by you lending money, which changes my perspective on poverty. Kiva challenges our current conversation on helping the poor and what she said was so true.
"At the cost of a cup of coffee, you can save a child's life." We hear this narrative all the time. You gave in first but then when the same narrative hit you a few weeks later with a different kid you start to wonder, "do I have to donate again?" "How many cups of coffee do I have to give up?"
What happens is donations sometimes become a transaction. "A transaction of the right not to feel bad about the poor."
And I find that to be so true. Part of this "transaction" stems from, in her words, the weird power relationship between donators and the recipients.
But the other part, I think, stems from us not reflecting what truly matters and not listening carefully. It's not that we shouldn't care about the poor but that what they need might be different from what we think if we pay closer attention to what they say.
We are also so used to believe in whatever we are told because often time that's just easier.
And we've got ourselves the perfect recipe of false narratives: storytellers who don't listen carefully to whoever they are reporting, and an audience that doesn't reflect.
This doesn't just happen to our perception of poverty. In fact, I think it happens to every single conservation of just about anything, particularly the things you see on Facebook.
But that doesn't have to be the case. The next time you see sometime that upsets you, pay extra attention to it, not just because it may turn out to be a different story, but because it says something about what you really cares.
Jessica taught me that if we want to make an impact, or be a social entrepreneur for that matter, we need to start paying more attention to what makes us uncomfortable, which reflects what we really care about.
And from there, we can truly start making a meaningful impact.

STITCHES is a non-profit community organisation in Australia, Melbourne founded by the lovely Chris Templeton and her husband Patrick Templeton.
They built their own little Disneyland for less fortunate kids, teaching them to stay away from the drug infested culture, helping them with school work ,feeding them hot meals (Malaysian Curry) and most importantly loving each one of them like their own.
With a heart bigger than the hulk, Chris is SOOL's soolperhero of the week.
