1⃣eat like a pig; pig out
2⃣fat as a pig
3⃣sweat like a pig
4⃣pigsty
5⃣put lipstick on a pig
--
Pigs are known for being noisy, greedy eaters, 1⃣so if someone says you “eat like a pig,” well, you know what they mean. Ex: I don’t like eating out with Sean because he eats like a pig. In fact, pigs are so famous for their eating habits that they’ve even become verbs: “pig out” means “to eat greedily or gorge.” Ex: If you pig out on junk food, you’re going to get a stomachache.
I don’t like eating out with Sean because he eats like a pig.(我不愛跟尚恩吃飯,因為他吃相像頭豬。) If you pig out on junk food, you’re going to get a stomachache.
What happens if you eat like a pig? You get fat! 2⃣So if you say someone is fat as a pig, the meaning is obvious. Ex: Josh used to be thin, but now he’s fat as a pig. 3⃣The fat tend to sweat a lot, and “sweat like a pig” means “to sweat profusely.” Which seems strange, because pigs don’t actually sweat. As it turns out, this expression comes from pig iron, which “sweats” as it cools. Ex: I sweat like a pig whenever it gets hot.
Josh used to be thin, but now he’s fat as a pig.(賈許過去很瘦,可是現在肥得像頭豬。) I sweat like a pig whenever it gets hot.(天氣熱的時候,我總是汗流浹背。)
We all know how pigs love rolling around in the mud, so a 4⃣ “pigsty” can mean a place that’s really dirty or messy. Ex: Why is your room such a pigsty? 5⃣ Pigs are so dirty that putting lipstick on them wouldn’t make them look much better, so “put lipstick on a pig” means to make superficial changes in an attempt to makes something (or someone) seem better than it really is. Ex: The government’s PR campaign is just putting lipstick on a pig.
Why is your room such a pigsty?(你房間怎麼可以亂得像豬窩?) The government’s PR campaign is just putting lipstick on a pig.(政府的公關活動只是給豬上口紅。)
1. gorge「
2. pig iron「
3. profusely「

Good *sportsmanship* takes the spotlight during the women's 5,000 meter race at this year's Olympics.
Good sportsmanship *takes the spotlight* during the women's 5,000 meter race at this year's Olympics.
- take the spotlight 鎂光燈聚集的焦點
spotlight就是聚光燈,有許多搭配詞像是take the spotlight, turn the spotlight on, in the spotlight, steal the spotlight, put a spotlight on都是表示飽受關注。
Early on in the second heat of the race, which *took place* Aug. 16, New Zealand runner Nikki Hamblin tripped and fell on the track.
- take place 舉行
The conference will take place in September.
Both women finished the race and embraced after *crossing the finish line.*
- cross the finish line
You've really crossed the line.
Despite their tumbles, D'Agostino and Hamblin will be allowed to advance to the semifinals.
semi-常見的字還有semiannual(半年一次的)、semi-formal(半正式的)、semiconductor(半導體)、semiofficial(半官方的)等。

A hidden weapon in the armoury – will the government beat the breast?
另外,beat the breast直譯時beat便是解作「打」,看似沒有甚麼特別,但配合上半句的a hidden weapon in the armoury,其實帶出了政府認為胸部是武器。
The Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong last year received widespread media coverage around the world. In general, the campaign had a good press because of the surprisingly peaceful and civilised sit-in. The media commented that if it had taken place in another country, the odds are that it would have evolved into a riot which might have spiralled out of control. At the opposite extreme, however, the government do not seem to appreciate how civilised Hongkongers are and accused a woman of assaulting a police officer with her breasts during another protest.
Floored by the absurdity of the conviction, a host of Hongkongers expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment over the way the government govern Hong Kong and, probably more importantly, how they view Hongkongers. A police officer was captured in a video where he brandished his much-more-potent-than-breasts truncheon, but he later explained in court that the truncheon was only an extension of his arm and was just used to pat a citizen. If a truncheon could be regarded as the extension of a body part, it would stretch belief that breasts are seen as weapons which could land a citizen in court.
