About Taiwan Comic Base “Hong Kong Anti-extradition Art Exhibition”
Part 1: About the exhibition
The exhibition is reconstructing the scene of Kwai Fong Lennon Wall and Prince Edward Station.
From artists’ works, it recalls the memories of incidents in Hong Kong pro-democracy movement, tragedy, anger, and love.
While Lennon Walls are disappearing in Hong Kong, political illustrations are able to be exhibited in Taiwan, freely.
Freedom is so much treasurable, and worth to fight for.
Thanks all artists, Jean, her team, and Comic Base for the extraordinary exhibition.
Part 2: Meaning of political illustration?
It may not be a “effective” way to achieve democracy.
It may not heal the bleeding wounds.
It may not end the hunger of youngsters who quarrel with family.
Then....Why people need the illustrations?
It may spread the truth.
It may heal people’s heart.
It may bring people together, without boundries.
That’s the power of illustration.
Every one is weak, but every one is contributing.
Stay safe, Stay strong.

“Do you know what this installation art is about?"
I asked, during our visit to the Imperial War Museum.
“Oh… I have absolutely no idea, but I’ve seen people wearing poppies on their clothing throughout the month.” Answered friend E.
11th of November, this date stands for the Armistice Day, with a two-minute silence at eleven o'clock on the nearest Sunday to 11/11.
11.11.2018, today, is the first a hundred year after the end of world war one.
During this remembrance period, people would pin a small poppy with them. Instead of the symbol of blood and death, the meaning of poppy is remembrance and hope.
“Was it really signed at 11 o’clock?” During the class, one of the classmates said.
“Maybe it wasn’t the exact time; however, 11/11 and 11 o’clock seems to be more meaningful. It was a tragedy, yet, it was a sad, beautiful tragedy.” The professor sighed.
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders' Fields.
-John McCrae, 1915
