我私下稱呼這部電影為「斬人」,試圖把戲裏本要帶出的貼地、暴力和冷峻的訊息抽離一點。
故然這齣電影關乎暴力行為,充份展現家庭和社會有着千絲萬縷的關係。
但對我而言,這是一部描述同情心的電影。
我殺害你是為了讓你解放,
我跟你造愛,是希望助你實現自己。
我認為這是我參與過其中一部最真摯又貼地的電影。製作團隊找到關切的題材,反映了時代處境,成就這部出色的作品。
在我拍攝的細小空間,我發現演員…通過不斷地交流,學到如何一起締造成果。
正如我以前說過很多次,假如沒有演員的信任,他們做甚麼和為何膽敢去做…若沒有我們專心投入,絕對沒可能拍出這部如此聚焦、貼身、震憾又感人的電影…即使這部戲描寫的是一宗「斬人」事件。
製作電影是以信任為基礎。當然這部戲有劇本,有不同的場景,也需要演繹某些「內容」來填補故事空白…但稍等一下…當春夏脫下胸圍,我感受到她的信任和用意。而白只心無旁鶩的法庭戲…也絕對不像演出:這位演員擁抱着這角色的心理和責任。
當你跟意念相近的人走進這些空間,我終於了解電影為何重要:因為它不只是一部戲,而是分享人生最奧妙的地方。
I call this film " Chopping people " to try to step back from the relevance and violence and starkness of the film addresses.
Sure it’s a film about a violent act. Sure the family and the social complexities are very very well addressed.
But for me, it’s a film about compassion.
I kill you to liberate you,
I make love with you to help you realise yourself.
I feel this is one of the most true and relevant films I have ever made and in the making, the team found that relevance, found that mirror on ourselves that all great art has to be.
In my small space, I found the actors ... in our give and take, we learned to go there together.
As I have said many times, without the actors trust in what they are doing and why they dare...without the simplicity of our engagement, there is absolutely no way a film can be as focused and relevant and shocking and touching .... even as this story was about a “chopping people” event.
That trust is the base for process. Sure there is a script and there are locations and there is a bit of " content " acting to fill in the gaps .... but wait .... the moment Chun Xia took off her bra, I felt so much trust and such intent and the focus of Bai Zhi in the court….is not a performance: it’s this actor embracing this man psyche and his responsibilities.
When you go to these spaces with people of similar intent, I realise why it matters: its not just a film, it’s a wonderful life that must be shared.

粉紅電影(ピンク映画, Pinku eiga )是指含有裸露或性內容的軟性情色片。由於在日本大銀幕上不能展露生殖器官,情色導演想盡各式各樣的精緻道具或拍攝方法,務求讓演員的「工作部位」不會在性愛戲中顯露。
1960年,粉紅電影異常流行。在東京有數千家播放粉紅電影的戲院,每周更會不停轉畫。1970年代,粉紅電影幾乎是某幾家主要影視公司唯一的收入來源。
粉紅電影有一系列嚴格的製作指引:影片必須每5分鐘左右有一場性愛戲。片長至少一小時,並要用16mm或35mm菲林在一星期內拍好,剪接一周內完成。種種的挑戰、快速的調度和有限的預算,都讓粉紅電影成為培育很多年輕導演的完美訓練場。
然而,粉紅電影在今天經已沒落。不久之前向人打聽,在粉紅影圈堅持不懈的導演只餘下3人。所以我能被邀請掌鏡首部粉紅音樂劇電影《河童之戀》實在與有榮焉。
根據製作指引,我們用35mm菲林拍攝,花了4日半時間,完成了這部90分鐘的作品。我們不單止每5分鐘有一場(很輕柔的)性愛戲,還要不是每次在性愛戲之後,每7分鐘加插到一首歌曲﹗
能夠在如此緊絀的時間和預算內完成這作品,基本上全靠 一take過拍攝每幕戲和歌曲。還記得拍到最後一日,需要拍攝最後一幕戲和一首歌,因為我們的進度比預期中快很多,也沒有超出預算,歌曲又很盞鬼,最終拍了三次合剪成現在這個版本。
Pink film(ピンク映画, Pinku eiga ) are from of soft-core theatrical films that include nudity or deal with sexual content. But since genitals are banned from Japanese screens, film-makers have come up with all sorts of ingenious props and techniques to make sure that the actors “ working parts “ are not revealed during any sex scenes.
Pink films became extremely popular in the 1960. There were thousands of Pink cinemas in Tokyo alone, all changing programme every week. In the 1970’s, they are said to have been the only way that the major studios survived.
Pink films have strict production rules: The film must have a sex scene every five minutes or so. The film must be approximately one hour in duration. It must be filmed on 16 mm or 35 mm film within one week, and edited the following week. These challenges, the quick turnaround, and limited budgets made Pink films an ideal training ground for many talented young film makers.
But the genre is dying. There were only three dedicated directors in Pink Cinemas last time I asked, so I was proud to be invited to make the first Pink musical film Underwater Love.
As per the rules we shot on 35mm film. We finished the whole ( 90 minute ) film in four and a half days . And not only did we have a ( very soft ) sex scene every five minutes, we also had a song every seven minutes or so, as often as not after the sex !
The only way to get all done in the little time and with the budget we had was basically to shoot one take of each set up, even the songs. On the last day and for the last song / scene we were far enough ahead of schedule and under budget enough and the song was so much fun that we allowed ourselves three whole takes which are edited into this clip.

Flattening The Curve: Sex and Cinema
在情色片或不同的文化中,床第之事都是例行公事:你做這個,總會讓大家進入…然後我再這樣做,「啪!」完事了。
但一部想宣揚肢體美學的電影不是這回事。電影中的性愛場面尤如地雷陣,進入這地帶,顯露我們的恐懼、不安和對自已的真正看法。
所以拍性愛戲時,我們的步履會輕柔一點…先讓演員明白大家都小心謹慎,你不必做這個做那個…但如果所有都借位拍攝,又會變成一部爛A片:性愛變成一場表演,而不是真正分享一種經歷、經驗和樂事。
在我的經驗中,這關乎於(跟好的性愛一樣)信任。作為攝影師,我是床戲最密切的人,也是參與者。我嘗試讓觀眾感受那種燈光、潮紅、甜蜜和熱情澎湃的感覺,體驗它應有的生命。
現實中,不少人做愛的原因,是因為他們酒醉到連交歡的對象也不清楚,又或是做過甚麼。
在電影世界裡,我們也要找到類似的空間:一個被棄置,帶給別人意想不到會發生甚麼事的地方。
我喜歡拍性愛戲。我深信在分享私密之間,讓電影變得更真切。
In porn and in many cultures, bedrooms sex is just programmed : you do this, which takes us there ...then I do this and "bang" we are done.
That doesn't quite work if a film intends to celebrate our bodies. Sex in film is a field of landmines, a terrain that most reveals our fears, insecurities and what we really feel about ourselves.
So we tread lightly ... we re-assure that this will be discreet and you don't have to do this and that .... but when it gets too technical, it's just like bad porn : a performance rather that an event or experience or a pleasure shared.
In my experience it has to be ( like e good sex ) about trust. As a cameraperson, I am the closet to the act. I am a participant. I am trying to give your experience the light and flush and sweet and exuberance that this wonder of life deserves.
In the "real world", people often have sex because they were too drunk to know who they are with, what they were doing.
In the film world, we have to find a similar space: a space of abandon and giving the unexpectedness of actually doing something you never thought you would or could.
I like sex scenes. I believe the secrets shared are what makes our films so true.
