Stay healthy in another country
Consume floral tea to soothe the liver and relieve stress
We have to get accustomed to a new environment, the cultural differences, and the financial situation when we migrate to another country. This also means we are bound to face a lot of pressure.
Chinese Medicine theories believe that negative emotions can hurt the liver, hence, diminishing the organ’s performance. Individuals would sigh frequently, burp or fart, and stomach ache and experience bowel problems and insomnia.
To keep us mentally healthy, we should soothe the liver regularly by drinking floral tea according to our body constitution. Generally, floral tea can soothe the liver, relieve stress, and calm our mind. There are also specific types with special properties. Earl Grey tea, which we can easily find in restaurants, is black tea infused with bergamot oil. We can consume it to relieve stress.
Rose - warm in nature, reduces stress, promotes qi and activates blood. As it can activate blood, it is not suitable for menstruating women.
Jasmine - warm in nature, regulates qi and reduces stress, relieves chest discomfort.
Sweet osmanthus - warm in nature, warms the lungs and dispels cold, warms the stomach and relieves pain.
Fingered citron - warm in nature, relieves stagnated liver and regulates qi, nourishes the stomach and relieves pain.
Chrysanthemum - cool in nature, clears the livers and heat, improves vision.
Lavender - cool in nature, clears heat and detoxifies, dispels wind and relieves itchy skin, helps to improve sleep.
Chamomile - cold in nature, calms the mind. It can relieve heat wind flu and rheumatoid arthritis.

Today I’m @ifs_events to watch a few speakers who put out messages I respect on social media. @bdccarpenter @soheefit & @jamessmithpt are all well-known proponents of taking healthy, mentally sustainable approaches to fitness and steering clear of a mindset that prioritises “hacking” weight loss or putting it before ones sanity. They’re at the front line of fighting how, particularly as we consume it in well marketed snapshots, a lot of the online fitness culture is misleading.
-
It’s very easy to live under the illusion that abs and guns must equal happiness - there aren’t many photos of ripped people on Instagram who look miserable, yet I guarantee you many of them are.
-
It’s not necessarily the acquisition of their physique that made them miserable (though, for many, a life of deprivation and lacking anything that inspires them more than what they look like could have), more that there’s very little correlation between shreddedness and happiness.
-
Yes, being HEALTHIER means you feel better. How ripped someone is doesn’t provide an indicator of this though.
Yes, time to invest in yourself in the gym is good for your sense of self-worth and mental health, but it doesn’t mean someone is happy with the other 23 hours of their day.
-
A ripped fitness influencer I know in Vegas eats donuts and pizza all day and has to recreationally “medicate” his way through his daily battle with depression.
-
In their podcast this week Ben & James talked about the different ways in which a lack of inspiration and contentment showed itself in their habits and decision making.
-
My recommendation would be to focus on the things that improve your health & contentment. Go to the gym because it’s rewarding to spend that time exercising and use the modality that you enjoy most and look forward to. Make sound dietary decisions because the energy they give you is rewarding.
-
Look for something in the rest of each day that you find rewarding. Time with family. Painting or playing music. Checking in with a friend who you know is struggling. Studying a subject you love that might just allow you to make it your career.

Don’t be fooled by feeds. “Happiness > Pleasure”

Hello!
Thanks for stopping by.
I am sure most of you have watched countless sourdough videos available out there, and most are mix by hand tutorials.
If you find joy in touching your dough and don’t mind the mess, well, good for you ??
But if you prefer a no-fuss and less messy way without compromising the end result, this recipe is for you!
See, I am impatient. I work a mentally demanding full time job, and when I make sourdough, I don’t like to fuss over them.
Normally, I maximise my yield for each batch by making 4-6 (sometimes 8!) loaves of sourdough, because making 1 or 10 loaves to me takes the same amount of preparation and effort.
Anyway, here’s the recipe.
Enjoy!
Ingredients:
300g Bob’s Artisan Bread Flour (or any high protein bread flour, at least 12-13% protein)
65g starter (tripled, use at peak)
233g water (room temperature)
6g Pink Himalayan Salt (or regular salt)
Method:
1. Autolyse 30 minutes
2. Add starter, mix, wait 15 minutes (I sometimes add salt together with starter when I am not in the mood and still get great results)
3. Add salt, mix, wait 15 minutes
4. Transfer to a bulking dish
5. Coil fold x 1
6. Coil fold x 2
7. Coil fold x 3
8. Coil fold x 4 - skip this step if your dough is strong
9. Leave to bulk
10. Total bulk 4 hours at 28C
11. Final shape
12. Cold retard overnight at 3C - make sure your fridge temperature no more than 3C!
13. Preheat oven at 250C, fan mode, for 1 hour
14. Bake at 250C, fan mode, for 35 minutes, lid close
15. And 250C, fan mode, for 5 minutes, lid off
16. Let bread cool completely before cutting, at least 1 hour

Notes:
Always begin with a strong and healthy starter.
Make sure your dough has increased 50% in size.
As beginners, I know it is very hard to determine if your dough has finished its bulk fermentation based on the look and feel, due to the lack of experience. I know that feeling very well, because I was once that lost, clueless beginner myself.
After tinkering with sourdough for about a year, I have come up with a rough timing guide for bulk fermentation based on room/kitchen temperature, well, sort of like a cheat sheet, so you can get the hang of sourdough bread making and get good results every time.
Remember, bulk fermentation starts when starter is mixed into the dough.
Hope this helps!
