My kids love any opportunity they get to come up close with animals and nature. During our stay in Bintan last week, we booked a last minute excursion to Safari Lagoi and were the only family to do so - which means we had our personal chauffeur. Woohoo!

The place is quite new, having opened only three years ago. Since our 3.5-hour trip was inclusive of a dinner at a kelong seafood restaurant, the hubby and I thought: The safari must be very small lar, can tour finish in a short time.

It turned out that we spent hours there and were almost late in getting our dinner before catching the ferry back home, but it was all worthwhile. The kids got to shake hands with chimpanzees, watch a snake devour a dead mouse, feed grass to deer, cuddle with cute rabbits, admire the elephants (there were seven!), be intimated by sun bears who stood up on their feet and growled at onlookers, carry a giant turtle, plucked jambu and feed them to cockatoos, come up close with crocodiles, pythons, cassowaries and even a komodo dragon. We heard from our guide that there will even be a tiger and camel here in the future.

Were we impressed? Definitely. It was more than what we had bargained for and I was so glad we visited this place together just before the holiday ended. The 5min boat ride across the mangrove swamp to the seafood restaurant, which served us our yummy dinner promptly, was the icing on the cake and a perfect way to end off a perfect day.

Oh, and what did we do in the morning? It was sports day for us in Club Med. The girls did their trapeze and we then decided to head to the sports centre ourselves where we played archery, squash, badminton, basketball and football for the whole morning and afternoon. Yeah, energy seldom runs low here. Haha. But, I was amazed we survived the long day and made it through the late night bumpy ferry ride.

To more holidays ahead of us where we create loving memories to last a lifetime. It doesn't matter so much where we go, but who we are with.

We had a trip filled with fun, adventure, joy and love. The kids enjoyed trying out new experiences like going on the trapeze, exploring the surroundings and going on a nature walk, eating ice cream non-stop, performing on stage in the Mini Club show, dancing all night long, visiting Lagoi Safari and coming up close with animals from rabbits and guinea pigs to elephants and sun bears and ending it all with a kelong seafood dinner.

It was also a trip complete with squabbles, tantrums, defiance, and moments when we wonder if the kids cherish what they have and deserve to go on holidays. Haha. Yup, these include lying on the floor crying and tugging at your leg persistently type or simply refusing to brush teeth and would rather throw a tantrum in the toilet type. The good and the tough times of parenting, they just have to go hand in hand, right?

I've learnt - and am still learning - to accept both of them, to cherish the good and handle the bad in a calmer, more matured way. Thanks to the hubby for being my best partner, though we might not see eye to eye the whole time, I think we make a pretty good tag team and help to better each other along the way too. There's still a long way to go and I don't think our family trips will ever be 100% pure joy, obedience and fun - but that's the challenge and the beauty of it all.

So, here's to more family trips, more surprises, and more curveballs coming our way. We still had a ball of a time and took away so many precious memories too. The kids can't decide which is their favourite highlight because we had so many! Well, this was one of my favourite pics from this trip - one that reminded me that no matter what happens, all you need is LOVE ❤ to keep you going.
